Yemen’s Solar Energy Initiative Progresses: Grand Mufti And Officials Inspect Dhahban Generating Station

The Grand Mufti of Yemen, Shams al-Din Sharaf al-Din, alongside the Caretaker Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Muhammad al-Bukhaiti, and the Mayor of the Capital, Hamoud Abbad, conducted an inspection of the ongoing solar energy station project at the Dhahban Generating Station. This initiative, spearheaded by the General Electricity Corporation, aims to bolster the country’s energy infrastructure.

During the inspection, Sharaf Al-Din, Al-Bukhaiti, Abbad, and the First Undersecretary of the Municipality, Khaled Al-Madani, were provided with an overview of the construction progress, focusing on the installation of iron bases and the supply and placement of solar panels with a capacity of 2.5 megawatts. The project, funded by the Capital Municipality, is a crucial step towards enhancing Yemen’s energy resilience.

Engineer Muhammad Al-Shaibani, the Deputy Director of the Corporation for Distribution and Technical Inspection, briefed the officials on the current status of the project, highlighting that 78 percent of civil works and approximately 55 percent of the overall targeted tasks have been accomplished. He anticipated that the station would be operational within the next two to three months.

The primary objective of the project is to generate solar energy during daylight hours and integrate it into the national electrical grid. Additionally, the General Electricity Corporation will cover the lighting requirements for the gardens during the night period, ensuring continuous and sustainable energy access.

Expressing their appreciation for the project, Sharaf al-Din, al-Bukhaiti, Abbad, and al-Madani underscored its significance in aligning with the directives of the Leader of the Revolution and the head of the Supreme Political Council. The initiative aims to illuminate streets, gardens, and parks within the secretariat, contributing to the overall development and well-being of the community.
