Manah I Solar Project Hits Milestone As Solar PV Modules Arrive In Oman

Solar photovoltaic (PV) modules have started arriving at the location of Oman’s latest large-scale renewable energy initiative – a 500 MW capacity project underway in the Wilayat of Manah in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. Over the coming months, more than 1 million PV modules will be installed as part of the Manah I Solar project, led by Wadi Noor Solar Power Company. “These are bifacial modules capable of generating power from both the top and bottom surfaces,” said Eng Yahya al Rawahi, CEO of Wadi Noor Solar Power. “For the Manah-1 project, we have 585W as well as 590W modules. They will be mounted on single-axis trackers to maximize power generation throughout the day.” Wadi Noor Solar Power Company SAOC, representing a consortium of EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power Co Ltd, is executing the Manah-I Solar PV project as an Independent Power Project (IPP). Construction is being handled by Shanghai Electric Company’s local subsidiary Shanghai Electric Muscat Ltd SPC.

Governor Qahim Introduces Solar Power System For Hodeida’s Water Station In Yemen

Hodeida Governor Mohammed Qahim inaugurated a pioneering project to implement a solar energy system at the al-Zababerah water station. The $835,000 project is financed by the German Development Bank through UNICEF. The solar energy system, comprising 1,440 panels with a total capacity of 960 kilowatts, will generate 2,000 cubic meters of water per hour. Abdulrahman Eshaq, Director of the local water and sanitation institution, briefed Governor Qahim on the project’s completion, noting that the solar panels were installed under institutional oversight, benefiting over 500,000 residents in Hodeida.

Egypt ERA Opens Registration For Private Sector Bilateral Renewable Energy Contracts

The Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (Egypt ERA) has announced the commencement of registrations for the first phase of bilateral electricity contracting between the private sector, known as “P2P”. Interested parties are invited to submit their applications from June 1, 2024, until August 31, 2024. This initiative aims to facilitate the participation of companies in renewable electricity generation projects, as outlined in Circular No. (2) of 2024, and in accordance with the prevailing legislation of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The first phase targets a total of 500MW of new renewable electricity generation, including solar and wind projects, with each project having a capacity of 100MW.

Egypt Makes Massive Land Push For Green Hydrogen Production (41,700 sq km Allocated)

NREA Chairman Mohamed El-Khayat announced that the Egyptian government has designated approximately 41,700 square kilometers for the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) to expand renewable energy projects focused on green hydrogen production. El-Khayat stated during a cabinet meeting that 900 square kilometers remain to be allocated. El-Khayat also revealed that sites for green hydrogen production projects have been allocated for 27 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with various investors, amounting to a total capacity of around 115 gigawatts, which includes 52 gigawatts of solar energy and 63 gigawatts of wind energy. Additionally, the government has approved land allocations in the Red Sea and Suez governorates to establish renewable energy plants with a projected capacity of 4.4 gigawatts of wind energy and 11 gigawatts of solar energy, El-Khayat noted.
