The Track-Only BT62 Supercar by Brabham Has Been Discontinued

The Track-Only BT62 Supercar by Brabham Has Been Discontinued

Brabham, the iconic Australian racing car manufacturer, has recently announced the discontinuation of its track-only supercar, the BT62. This news comes as a surprise to many automotive enthusiasts who were eagerly awaiting the release of this high-performance machine.

The BT62 was first unveiled in 2018 and was positioned as a no-compromise, track-focused supercar. It was named after the legendary Brabham BT62 race car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. With a price tag of around $1.3 million, it was targeted at a niche market of wealthy collectors and racing enthusiasts.

One of the key features of the BT62 was its impressive powertrain. It was equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.4-liter V8 engine that produced a staggering 700 horsepower. This immense power was channeled to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox. The car’s lightweight carbon fiber body and aerodynamic design allowed it to achieve remarkable performance figures, including a top speed of over 200 mph.

Brabham had initially planned to produce 70 units of the BT62, in honor of the company’s 70th anniversary. However, due to various reasons, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the production numbers fell significantly short of this target. The company has not disclosed the exact number of units produced but has confirmed that no more will be manufactured.

The decision to discontinue the BT62 has left many fans disappointed. The car had garnered significant attention and praise from automotive journalists and enthusiasts alike. Its aggressive styling, powerful engine, and track-focused nature made it a highly desirable machine for those seeking an adrenaline-fueled driving experience.

Despite its discontinuation, Brabham has assured existing owners that they will continue to provide support and service for their vehicles. This includes access to spare parts, technical assistance, and even exclusive track events organized by the company. This commitment to customer satisfaction reflects Brabham’s dedication to upholding its legacy as a renowned racing car manufacturer.

While the BT62 may no longer be in production, Brabham has hinted at the possibility of future projects. The company has expressed its intention to explore new avenues and continue pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering. This suggests that we may see more exciting and innovative creations from Brabham in the future.

In conclusion, the discontinuation of the track-only BT62 supercar by Brabham marks the end of an era for this iconic Australian manufacturer. Despite its short-lived production run, the BT62 will be remembered as a remarkable machine that showcased Brabham’s commitment to performance and excellence. As we bid farewell to this track-focused beast, we eagerly await what Brabham has in store for us next.
