RenovaBio reduces CO2 emissions by 94.5 million tons

RenovaBio is a Brazilian government program that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting the use of biofuels. The program was launched in December 2016 and has already shown impressive results. According to a recent report, RenovaBio has reduced CO2 emissions by 94.5 million tons since its inception.

The program works by setting targets for the amount of biofuels that must be produced and consumed in Brazil. These targets are based on the country’s energy needs and the potential for biofuels to replace fossil fuels. Biofuels are made from renewable sources such as sugarcane, corn, and soybeans, and they emit significantly less CO2 than fossil fuels.

To meet the targets set by RenovaBio, biofuel producers must obtain certificates called CBIOs (Biofuels Decarbonization Credits). These certificates are issued based on the amount of CO2 emissions that are avoided by using biofuels instead of fossil fuels. The more CBIOs a producer has, the more biofuels they can sell.
