Ford Creates a New Division Focused on AI and Autonomy in Vehicles

Ford Motor Company has announced the creation of a new division that will focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous vehicles. The new division, called Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC, will be responsible for developing and deploying self-driving vehicles, as well as managing the company’s partnerships with other companies in the autonomous vehicle space.

The move comes as Ford seeks to position itself as a leader in the development of autonomous vehicles. The company has been investing heavily in the technology, and has already begun testing self-driving cars on public roads in several cities across the United States.

The new division will be led by Sherif Marakby, who previously served as Ford’s vice president of autonomous vehicles and electrification. Marakby will report directly to Jim Hackett, Ford’s CEO.

In a statement announcing the creation of the new division, Hackett said that the move was part of Ford’s broader strategy to “reshape our business” and “accelerate our efforts to build a profitable, sustainable business model for the future.”

“We believe that autonomous vehicles will play a significant role in the future of transportation, and we are committed to leading the way in this exciting new field,” Hackett said.

The creation of Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC is just the latest move by the company to position itself as a leader in the autonomous vehicle space. In addition to its testing efforts, Ford has also formed partnerships with several other companies in the industry, including ride-hailing giant Lyft and Chinese tech firm Baidu.

The company has also invested heavily in its own research and development efforts, with a particular focus on developing AI systems that can help self-driving cars navigate complex environments and make decisions in real-time.

Despite these efforts, however, Ford still faces significant challenges in bringing autonomous vehicles to market. The technology is still in its early stages, and there are many regulatory and safety concerns that must be addressed before self-driving cars can become a reality.

Nevertheless, Ford remains committed to the development of autonomous vehicles, and the creation of its new division is a clear indication of the company’s determination to succeed in this exciting new field. With its deep pockets, extensive resources, and talented team of engineers and researchers, Ford is well-positioned to play a leading role in the development of self-driving cars in the years to come.
