Open Homes Australia Episode 7 Season 7: Yingli Solar Panels Powering a Home With a Tiny Footprint

We’ve been treated to some stunning homes in this season of Open Homes Australia, but nothing quite compares to the one we explored in the latest episode. With a footprint of just 5 x 4 metres, the Hayes Lane sustainable masterpiece in Easy Melbourne left us in awe. Powering this tiny home was none other than Yingli solar panels. With almost 10 years under its belt, the four-storey dwelling has proven that sustainable living is possible!

Hayes Lane Project: Integration of sustainable technologies reducing bills and environmental impact

Roshan transported viewers to a mini block of land in East Melbourne which immediately left us flabbergasted. How could anyone live in such a compact home?! With a tour by owner and builder Ralph Alphonso, our questions were quickly answered. The home incorporates James Bond-esque transforming spaces which provide the occupants all the mod-cons one would expect. From a convertible couch/dining table to a TV that rises from a side cabinet, the home cleverly utilises all spaces.

The project was developed to deliver a home that can passively heat and cool all spaces, incorporating geothermal heating/cooling and hot water systems. 5-star energy-rated appliances were selected to minimise energy usage. Impressively, phase-change materials (PCM) were incorporated into the design and construction to further maximise the passivity of the home.

Atop and on the side of the dwelling rest Yingli solar panels. In concert with microinverter technology and battery storage, the solar panels meet most of the home’s daily power needs. Additionally, the roof panels provide shade to the rooftop living area, which includes a hot tub!

Yingli solar panels’ proven track record

The Hayes Lane Project was completed in 2015 and has been a sustainable beacon ever since. With the integration of varying technologies and sustainable design choices, all eyes were on solar production. An important element of any sustainable home design is the solar PV system. While homes aim to achieve near 100% passivity through design and material choices, electricity will still be consumed if just merely running the fridge or charging your devices. This is where solar technology shines, and at approaching 10 years of service at 21 Hayes Lane, Yingli’s panels have proven their efficiency and quality.

The latest Yingli solar panels available to Australian homes and businesses

We know that Aussies want reliable solar panels for their homes and businesses, and the all-new Yingli Panda 3.0 Pro 440W solar panels provide reliability and efficiency in a powerful module.

Roshan caught up recently with Christopher from Yingli on Road to ZERO who discussed the new panel. The bifacial module immediately increases sunlight exposure and generation through its ability to absorb from the front and the rear of the panel. With 22.02% efficiency and a small 1.76 x 1.13m footprint, this panel is ideal for homes looking to maximise their available roof space.
