Neta Auto, a subsidiary of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) company Hozon Auto, today launched a battery electric vehicle (BEV) variant for the Neta L, after making the SUV’s (sport utility vehicle) extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant available two months ago.

The Neta L BEV is available in three options with a starting price of RMB 139,900 ($19,260), RMB 152,900 and RMB 162,900 respectively, with deliveries set to begin in July.

All three variants are powered by a Shenxing Battery pack based on lithium iron phosphate chemistry supplied by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL, SHE: 300750), all with a capacity of 68 kWh and a CLTC range of 510 km.

The pack supports 3C fast charging, capable of charging from 10 percent to 80 percent in 21 minutes. C refers to the battery’s charging multiplier, and 3C meaning that the batteries can theoretically be fully charged in 20 minutes.

The Neta L is based on Neta’s Shanhai platform and is a five-seater mid-size SUV. The BEV variant measures 4,770 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,660 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,810 mm, the same as the EREV variant.

The Neta L BEV comes standard with a single electric motor, which has a peak power of 170 kW and peak torque of 310 Nm, allowing the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.

The BEV has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 in the cockpit, which was standard on mainstream premium models last year and before, though high-end EVs have now moved to the next-generation Snapdragon 8295 chip.

It uses Horizon Robotics’ Journey 3 chip in its smart driving system with other sensing hardware including ultrasonic radar, millimeter wave radar, and cameras.

On April 22, Neta launched the Neta L EREV, powered by a 1.5L four-cylinder engine as a range-extender, and a battery pack for a capacity of up to 40.27 kWh, capable of delivering up to 310 kilometers of CLTC battery range.

For an EREV of this size, 40.27 kWh is a big battery pack, as the entry-level version of Neta’s smaller all-electric SUV, the Neta X, comes with a battery pack with a capacity of 51.8 kWh.

The Neta L EREV is offered in four variants with starting prices of RMB 129,900, RMB 136,900, RMB 149,900, and RMB 159,900, although the least expensive version will be available in August.

The launch of the Neta L is strategically important for Neta and seems to have gained good initial acceptance. The company’s previous SUVs had smaller dimensions and lower prices.

In the 35 days between its April 22 launch and May 26, the Neta L EREV has received more than 30,000 orders, Neta said on May 27.

Neta delivered 127,496 vehicles in 2023, down 16.16 percent year-on-year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The company delivered 10,113 vehicles in May, down 22.38 percent year-on-year while up 12.15 percent from April, according to data it released on June 1.

In the January-May period, Neta delivered 43,564 vehicles, down 13.37 percent year-on-year.

Neta’s parent company Hozon has filed to list in Hong Kong, according to a June 26 Hong Kong Stock Exchange filing.
